I want to promote website to get hits. Any ideas?

I have found over the last 11 years of marketing web sites online that -- you market them for free very poorly. The ole saying, "you get what you pay for" holds true. Marketing on the Internet will yield you a minimum of 70% returns. For every dollar spent you gain back $1.70 . Investing zero returns the same zero. When you are in business it is always better to adopt the philosophy of "It takes money to make money." With that you can't go wrong. Id be happy to back up my stated facts.

Best way to promote site for free is using Search Engine Optimization.

Well, for free? Just find directories, find the right catagory and add yourself. That's what you get for free.

If your willing to pay however, you could try SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or something like Kanoodle! or AdWords from Google

There are lots of ways to promote your site for free. Here's a few off the top of my head: write articles and press releases and submit them to as many sites as possible. (dont forget to leave your sites address) learn seo and work towards a page 1 listing in the search engines. promote your site on the social networks. (twitter, facebook, myspace, etc.) Put your sites address in your signiture in forums. find blog in your niche and when you leave a comment, there's usually an option to put your sites address.

This is all I can think of at the moment, but there are tons of methods out there.
